The history of sunglasses is much longer and varied than most people think. Did you know that in the 12th century or possibly earlier, China first used sunglasses? Their “lenses” were flat panes of smokey quartz that offered no corrective powers, but did protect eyes from the sun’s glare, and, according to some sources, evil spirits.
